Resort vs Main Island : What’s best for my photoshoot in Bora Bora?

Why shooting your photos in Bora Bora hotels is a lot nicer than coming to the main island?

Bora Bora. A name that resonates and travels like a ricochet on the planet. The legendary beauty of its lagoon is well established and makes it an ideal destination for honeymooners looking for serenity. An absolutely exquisite place to meet just the two of you, entwined and in love.

        Bora Bora has two facets.

On one side, you will find the postcard: the dreamy islets created by the hotel groups and on the other a local life on the main island where the raw beauty of the island is less obvious.

I am not here to take sides. However, I really want to help you make the right choice according to your aspirations to create the best possible memories. Which will remain forever the memory of this extraordinary journey. Because Bora Bora is often a once in a lifetime trip that some people prepare for several years in advance. Its significant cost can hurt modest budgets. We come to the (legitimate) question that many of our customers ask us.

Why such a price gap between a photo shoot on the main island of Bora Bora and within our hotel?

The answer is simple. This is because most luxury hotels are located on small islands (called Motus in Tahitian). They can therefore easily restrict access to all external vendors such as photographers, who must pay a significant entry fee. It’s what Billie and I call the rules of the game. And this game is worth the price because the “motus” hotels, which are all 5-star hotels, have a plethora of beautiful places. It’s a rendezvous with beauty, where you can bask in the sun and leave with exceptional photos.

I do not hide the fact that we prefer the Conrad, which has been recently renovated and the excellent St Regis and its landscaped lagoon. Shooting in a hotel guarantees that you will have a large variety of photos. The hotels have places designed by highly experienced architects and landscapers, to sum it up, it’s AWESOME! While the main island has relics of war like the cannons left by the American army. A different RAW beauty… The easiest place to get to the main island after taking a shuttle (boat) from your hotel is Matira Beach. A beautiful white sand beach lined with coconut trees and sparkly waters … and that’s it! This landscape is extraordinary but is not enough to win the duel: Hotels VS Main Island.

Back to the advantages of hotels, here is a list of places where you can take photos:

        – Hammocks levitated above the turquoise lagoon.
        – Enjoy the overwater bungalows and their pontoons/terraces
        – Tropical landscaped gardens.
        – Lagoons full of fish.
        – Unobstructed views of Mount Otemanu from Bora Bora.
        – White sand beaches which are cleaned daily.
        – Beautiful infinity pools with views of the lagoon and/or the mountain
        – Kayaks, paddles, traditional canoes available.
        – There’s even a mini golf in Conrad, haha.

While on the main island if you want to take pictures other than on Matira Beach, you will have to rent a 4×4 and/or hike inland to get more varied images. Not easy but doable.

You guessed it by now, in Bora Bora, it is much easier to take advantage of the hotel facilities to leave with beautiful pictures of your honeymoon.

On the other hand, we are not telling you that we cannot help you shoot pretty pictures on the main island. On the contrary!

We will always do our best to make your memories of Bora Bora beautiful and to help you leave with beautiful pictures. I know, it’s very cliché to say that but never mind I say it anyway. I say it because it’s true, even if it makes me seem like an emotional guy, which is not the case 😉
